Several trails listed as closed or restricted are part of the new Bighorn Wilderness Recreation Area or Bighorn Backcountry. This is an area that previously had unregulated access within it. In the fall of 2003, closures and seasonal restrictions were placed on several trails.

Don't get us labelled wrong, we are not eco freaks or tree huggers, but instead individuals that enjoy being in, and have a respect for the outdoors. In fact, we can often be seen hiking and quading around the west country. The reason we created this website was to showcase what is out there. Some may say that it was guys like us that resulted in restrictions for these areas. While we do use ATVs ourselves, we also realize that it is necessary to get off and walk. Every area doesn't need a set of tracks, even though it looks like you could get some there. We also believe that ATVs if used properly, and with the necessary trail maintenance are a viable form of transportation into many regions of the backcountry.

Others definitely will not agree with this viewpoint, but we have viewed extensive environmental damage caused by equestrian use and individuals on foot. Most of the time, we use ATVs as a form of transportation to get back into remote areas. Once there we get off and explore on foot. These were not random trails, but old trails and seismic lines present for a very long time period, and are the main route in to the area.

Unfortunately, this is a very popular area and with increased use comes increased impact. Something had to change to protect the values that many were enjoying. We agree with the protection of these areas and trails so it will be there for future generations.
